Hilary Margaret Miller (1919–1993) was a talented British artist. She was also known as Hilary Hennes after she married. Hilary was famous for her paintings and for illustrating books.

Her Education and Early Life

Hilary went to Blackheath High School. She loved art and continued her studies. From 1936 to 1940, she attended the Blackheath School of Art. After that, she studied for three more years. She went to the famous Royal College of Art.

Becoming an Artist and Teacher

After finishing her art studies, Hilary became a teacher. She taught at the South East Sussex Technical College. In 1946, she married another artist. His name was Hubert Hennes.

Hilary and Hubert moved to Oxford. They both taught art there. They worked at the Oxford School of Art.

Her Artworks and Illustrations

Hilary Miller was a very active artist. Between 1948 and 1967, she showed her paintings often. She exhibited them at the Royal Academy of Arts in London. This is a very important art gallery.

Besides painting, Hilary also illustrated many books. She drew pictures for books about gardening. She also illustrated books about nature. Some of these books included The Living World and Boff's Book of Gardening. Her illustrations helped people learn about plants and animals. Hilary Miller passed away in 1993.
