What is Hilda About?
The Hilda graphic novels take you to a magical world. It looks a lot like Scandinavia (countries like Norway or Sweden) from the late 1900s. The stories get ideas from old Scandinavian folklore (traditional tales) and even from the famous Moomins books.
The main character is a brave girl named Hilda. At first, she lives with her mom in a cozy cottage. It's surrounded by tall mountains and deep forests. Later, they move to a busy city called Trolberg.
Hilda's world is full of surprises! Besides regular people, you'll meet amazing creatures. These include big trolls, huge giants, tiny elves, and mysterious spirits. In the fourth book, Hilda joins a group called the Sparrow Scouts in Trolberg.
Meet the Main Characters
Hilda
- Hilda – She is the main hero of the stories. Hilda is a strong-willed, smart, and kind girl. She loves to explore the world around her with an open mind. Even though she meets classmates and other scouts, she often prefers to explore alone. She also loves making friends with magical creatures.
Twig
- Twig – This is Hilda's loyal pet. Twig is a special animal called a deerfox. This means he is half deer and half fox!
Johanna
- Johanna – Hilda's mother is very caring and supportive. She often worries about her daughter's adventures. When she was younger, Johanna was a Sparrow Scout herself. The Sparrow Scouts are like the Girl Scouts in the city of Trolberg.
Hilda as a TV Show
Animated Series on Netflix
The company Silvergate Media made an animated TV series based on the graphic novels. This show came out only on Netflix. It started on September 21, 2018, and everyone loved it! The second season of the series was released on December 14, 2020.
