Hilde Vandermeeren (born September 25, 1970, in Waregem) is a talented writer from Belgium. She writes many different kinds of books. She is known for her exciting psychological thrillers for adults and her wonderful stories for children and young people.

About Hilde Vandermeeren
Hilde Vandermeeren studied psychology. She also teaches adults about psychology and how to write creatively. Since 2001, she has written almost 50 books for kids and teens. Many of her books have been translated into other languages. These include Danish, German, Spanish, Korean, French, and Chinese.
Hilde has won many awards for her books. Some of these are the Zilveren Griffel, a Boekenwelp, and a White Raven. These are special awards for children's books.
Her Thriller Books
Hilde also writes thrilling books for adults. These are called psychological thrillers. Her book Als alles duister wordt (which means When Darkness Descends) came out in 2013. It won the Hercule Poirot Readers Prize that same year. Another one of her thrillers, Stille grond (meaning Silent Ground), was even considered for a movie!
She has written other popular thrillers too. These include De toeschouwers (The Watchers) and Scorpio. Scorpio was later published in the UK as The Scorpion's Head. It is part of a special book series called Walter Presents.
Short Stories and Other Works
Hilde has also written short stories for a famous mystery magazine. Her story The Lighthouse was nominated for an award in the USA. She also worked with a criminal lawyer, Walter Damen, on a series of three books. These books are called Restless, Bottomless, and Relentless.
Her books are part of a big international project called DETECt. This project involves universities and creative people from different countries in Europe.
Special Recognition
In 2021, Hilde Vandermeeren became an Honorary Citizen of Torhout. This was to celebrate her amazing achievements in writing.
