The Hilliard United Methodist Church is a very old and important church building. It is located in the center of Hilliard, Ohio, in the United States. This church is the oldest religious building in the entire community. Because it is so special, it has been officially recognized as a historic site.

A Look at Hilliard's Oldest Church
The Hilliard United Methodist Church was built a long time ago, in 1883. It was constructed by a group of people called the Methodist Episcopal congregation. Back then, Hilliard was just a small village. It was much smaller than it is today.
Over the years, Hilliard has grown a lot. It is now a busy suburb near the big city of Columbus. Many other old church buildings from the 1800s are gone now. But the Methodist church is still standing strong. It has become a very important part of Hilliard's history and identity.
What the Church is Made Of
This historic church is built mostly from strong brick. Its base, called the foundation, is made of limestone. The roof is covered with a material called asphalt. You can also see parts of the church made from wood and sandstone.
The church has a simple shape, with a pointed roof at the front. This is called a gable-front style. But what really stands out is its tall bell tower. This tower stands next to the main part of the church.
Special Features of the Bell Tower
The bell tower is the most noticeable part of the church's design. It has a very steep roof and decorative pieces called brackets. There are also large openings with slats, called louvers. These louvers protect the area where the bells are kept, which is called the belfry.
People enter the church through a doorway at the bottom of the tower. This doorway has a small, pointed porch above it. Behind the tower, one side of the building extends outwards. This extended part is shaped like an "L" and reaches closer to the street.
Windows and Design
The church has beautiful windows that are shaped like pointed arches. These are known as Gothic windows. You can find them on the ground floor of the front, in the bell tower, and in the extended side part.
There is also a round window at the very top of the front gable. More Gothic windows are located on the second level of the bell tower. All these details give the church its unique and historic look.
A Recognized Historic Place
In 1988, the Hilliard United Methodist Church received a special honor. It was officially added to the National Register of Historic Places. This means it is recognized as a very important building in American history.
The church qualified for this honor because of its amazing architecture. Its original Gothic Revival style elements are still perfectly preserved. Even today, the church is still used for worship by the same congregation that built it so many years ago.
