Hillie Molenaar (born May 22, 1945) is a Dutch filmmaker. She is known for making documentaries. Documentaries are films that tell true stories about real people and events.

Hillie Molenaar's Filmmaking Journey

Hillie Molenaar started working at a young age. She left school when she was 15. She had jobs like cleaning, waiting tables, and bookkeeping.

In 1974, when she was 29, Hillie became a documentary filmmaker. Her first film was called Protest Garden. She also worked with a famous filmmaker named Joris Ivens.

In 1978, Hillie started her own film company. It was called Molenwiek Film. She started it with Joop van Wijk. Together, they made many documentaries and short films. Some of their films include The Factory (1979) and The Daily Nation (2000).

They also helped produce a film called Xime (1994). This film was made in Guinea-Bissau. It was directed by Sana Na N’Hada. Xime was chosen to be shown at the famous Cannes Film Festival. This is a very important film festival.

Later, Hillie started her own company called HM Films. She has also taught filmmaking. She shared her knowledge at the Zelig School for Documentary, Television and New Media.
