Hilton, Inverness facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Hilton (in Scottish Gaelic it's called Baile A' Chnuic) is a part of the city of Inverness in Scotland. It used to be a separate village. Hilton is located in the Highland area of Scotland. It's about 2 kilometers (just over a mile) south of the center of Inverness. After World War II, many homes were built here by the local government. The name "Hilton" means "town on a hill," which makes sense because it's on a small rise between the River Ness and a stream called the Mill Burn.

Schools in Hilton

Hilton has two primary schools for younger students: Hilton Primary and Cauldeen Primary. After finishing their primary education, most students from Hilton go on to Inverness Royal Academy for their secondary schooling. However, students can sometimes attend other schools if the local education office agrees.

Local Shops and Services

Hilton has many useful places for people who live there. You can find three local shops, a bar and restaurant, a hairdressers', and a nail bar. There's also a butchers' shop, two churches, a chip shop for quick meals, and a pharmacy for medicines. For food, there's a Domino’s pizza place and two cafes.

Getting Around Hilton

Getting to and from Hilton is easy thanks to the local bus service. On weekdays, buses run into the center of Inverness every 20 minutes. This service starts early in the morning and continues until late in the evening. On weekends, the buses run less often, but they are still available.
