Hippolyta was a powerful queen of the Amazons in ancient Greek mythology. The Amazons were a group of strong women warriors. Hippolyta was known for her bravery and her special magical girdle (a war belt). This belt was a gift from her father, Ares, who was the Greek god of war.

Heracles and the Ninth Labor
A famous Greek hero named Heracles had a very difficult task involving Hippolyta. This task was called his Ninth Labor. Heracles was ordered by King Eurystheus to get Hippolyta's magical girdle. He needed to bring it back to the city of Mycenae. There, he would give it to Admete, King Eurystheus's daughter, as a gift. This was one of Heracles's twelve great challenges.
