Hiram Abas (born in Istanbul in 1932 – died on September 26, 1990) was an important official in Turkey's National Intelligence Organization, often called MIT. This organization is like a country's secret service, working to protect the nation's security.

Abas first retired after a big event in Turkey called the 1980 Turkish coup d'état. But he came back to MIT in August 1986, working as a deputy to the MIT chief, Hayri Ündül. He retired again in 1988. Sadly, he was killed on September 26, 1990, by a group known as Dev Sol.

Hiram Abas was trained in the United States for special operations. As an MIT agent, he became well-known during his time in Beirut, Lebanon, from 1968 to 1971. During this period, he also worked with Israel's intelligence agency, the Mossad. Some reports suggest he was present during a significant event in 1977 at Taksim Square. A historian named Daniele Ganser mentioned that Abas also worked closely with the American intelligence agency, the CIA.

Hiram Abas was a very private person because of his work. People knew him as "Mr. Pipe" because he often smoked a pipe.

His Biography

Two writers, Doğan Yurdakul and Soner Yalçın, wrote a book about Hiram Abas's life. The book is titled Mr Pipe – an MIT Officer's Unusual Life. It tells the story of his career and experiences as an intelligence officer.
