Hiroaki Morishima (森島 寛晃, Morishima Hiroaki, born April 30, 1972) is a famous Japanese former professional footballer. He played as a midfielder, which is a key position in the middle of the field. After his playing career, he became the president of Cerezo Osaka, a football club he played for.

Hiroaki Morishima was born in Hiroshima, Japan, on April 30, 1972. After finishing high school, he joined a football club called Yanmar Diesel in 1991. This club later changed its name to Cerezo Osaka.

Early Career and Promotions

In 1992, the old Japan Soccer League was replaced by a new league. Cerezo Osaka joined the new Japan Football League. The team worked hard and won the championship in 1994. This big win meant they were promoted to the top league, the J1 League.

Success and Retirement

Morishima continued to play a huge role for Cerezo Osaka. The club reached the finals of the Emperor's Cup twice, in 2001 and 2003. As he got older, his playing time slowly decreased after 2007. He decided to retire from professional football at the end of the 2008 season. Throughout his amazing career, Morishima played 456 games for Cerezo Osaka. He also scored an impressive 140 goals for the club.

Playing for Japan: National Team Star

Hiroaki Morishima also had a fantastic career playing for the Japan national team. His first game for Japan was on May 21, 1995, against Scotland.

World Cup Dreams and Asian Success

In 1996, he played in the 1996 AFC Asian Cup. A big moment came in 1997 during the 1998 World Cup qualification. Japan successfully qualified for the 1998 FIFA World Cup for the very first time in their history! At the 1998 World Cup, Morishima played for 11 minutes as a substitute against Croatia.

In 2000, Morishima helped Japan win the 2000 AFC Asian Cup. He played in five matches during that tournament. The next year, in 2001, he played in the 2001 FIFA Confederations Cup. He played in all five matches, and Japan finished in second place.

Home World Cup Heroics

The 2002 FIFA World Cup was a very special event because it was held in Korea and Japan. Morishima played in three games as a substitute during this World Cup. He even scored a goal just two minutes after coming on against Tunisia! He played a total of 64 games and scored 12 goals for Japan before he stopped playing for the national team in 2002.
