Hiroaki Morishima (森島 寛晃, Morishima Hiroaki, born April 30, 1972) is a famous Japanese former professional footballer. He was a talented midfielder who played for many years. Morishima also proudly represented the Japanese national team.

Morishima's Club Football Journey

Morishima was born in Hiroshima, Japan, on April 30, 1972. After finishing high school, he joined a football club called Yanmar Diesel in 1991. This club later became known as Cerezo Osaka.

In 1992, a new football league called the Japan Football League was created. Cerezo Osaka joined this new league. They worked hard and won the championship in 1994. This win meant they were promoted to the top league, the J1 League.

Morishima spent his entire professional club career with Cerezo Osaka. He helped his team reach the finals of the Emperor's Cup twice, in 2001 and 2003. He played for the club until the end of the 2008 season, when he retired.

He played a total of 456 games for Cerezo Osaka and scored 140 goals. This makes him one of the club's most important players ever.

Morishima's International Career

Hiroaki Morishima also had a great career playing for the Japanese national team. He made his first appearance for Japan on May 21, 1995, in a game against Scotland.

In 1996, he played in the 1996 AFC Asian Cup. A big moment came in 1997 during the 1998 World Cup qualification. Japan qualified for the 1998 FIFA World Cup for the very first time in their history! At the 1998 World Cup, Morishima played for 11 minutes as a substitute against Croatia.

In 2000, Morishima played a key role in the 2000 AFC Asian Cup. He played in five matches, and Japan won the championship! The next year, in 2001, he played in the 2001 FIFA Confederations Cup. He played in all five matches, and Japan finished in second place.

Morishima also played in the 2002 FIFA World Cup, which was co-hosted by Japan and South Korea. He came on as a substitute in three games. In the match against Tunisia, he scored a goal just two minutes after entering the game! He played 64 games and scored 12 goals for Japan before retiring from international football in 2002.
