Hirokazu Sasaki (佐々木 博和, Sasaki Hirokazu, born February 16, 1962) is a former Japanese football (soccer) player and manager. He played as a midfielder for several clubs in Japan. These included Matsushita Electric, Verdy Kawasaki, and Cerezo Osaka. Sasaki was an important player during a time when Japanese football was growing.

Playing Career Highlights

Hirokazu Sasaki was born in Osaka Prefecture, Japan, on February 16, 1962. He spent his childhood growing up in Okayama Prefecture. After finishing high school, Sasaki began his professional football journey.

Starting with Matsushita Electric

In 1980, Sasaki joined Matsushita Electric, a new local club. This club is now known as Gamba Osaka. He quickly became a regular player on the team. By 1984, his club was promoted to the Japan Soccer League. This was a major step up for the team.

However, after 1990, Sasaki's chances to play in matches became fewer. He continued to play for Matsushita Electric until 1992.

Moving to J1 League

In 1992, the Japan Soccer League was replaced by a new league called the J1 League. Sasaki then moved to a J1 League club named Verdy Kawasaki. Even with this move, he found it hard to get much playing time.

Finishing with Cerezo Osaka

After his time at Verdy Kawasaki, Sasaki returned to Osaka. He joined Cerezo Osaka, a club in the Japan Football League. In 1994, Cerezo Osaka won the championship in their league. This win meant the club was promoted to the J1 League. Sasaki played for Cerezo Osaka until the end of the 1995 season, when he retired from playing professional football.

Coaching Career

After his playing days, Hirokazu Sasaki also tried his hand at coaching. In 2003, he became a manager for a club called Speranza FC Takatsuki. This club played in the L.League, which is Japan's top women's football league. Sasaki managed the team for one season.
