Hitoshi Ogawa's Racing Career
Hitoshi Ogawa was a talented Japanese racing driver. He raced in the 1980s in the Fuji Grand Champion Series. He showed great promise in these races.
One of his biggest achievements was winning the All Japan Formula 3000 Championship in 1989. This was a very important racing series in Japan. He also came in second place in the same championship in 1990.
In 1990, he teamed up with Masanori Sekiya. Together, they won the JAF Grand Prix All Japan Fuji 500km race. This big race was held at the famous Fuji track.
In 1992, Hitoshi Ogawa won the first race of the World Sportscar Championship. This victory happened in Monza, Italy. He raced with his partner, Geoff Lees, in the C1 class.
Hitoshi Ogawa's Death
Sadly, Hitoshi Ogawa died in a racing accident in May 1992. This happened during an All-Japan Formula 3000 race. The race was held at the Suzuka Circuit.
During the race, his car was involved in a crash with another driver's car. Both cars went off the track at high speed. Hitoshi Ogawa's car hit a barrier. He suffered serious injuries and passed away on the way to the hospital. The race was stopped immediately after the accident.
