Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Hodge is a small place in Lafayette County, located in the state of Missouri in the United States. It's called an "unincorporated community" because it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town does. Instead, it's managed by the county.

The Story of Hodge

Hodge has an interesting past! Long ago, it was known by a different name: Edward's Mill. This name came from a man named John Edward, who owned a local gristmill. A gristmill was a special building where people brought their grain, like corn or wheat, to be ground into flour or meal.

Later, in the year 1888, a post office was opened in Hodge. This post office helped people send and receive letters and packages for many years. It stayed open for a long time, finally closing its doors in 1963.
