Hof is a city in the northern part of Franconia, a region in Bavaria, Germany. It's a medium-sized city with about 44,000 people living there. Hof is located near bigger cities like Coburg, Bayreuth, and Chemnitz.
Even though it's surrounded by the rural Hof district, the city of Hof is not part of it. This means Hof is an "urban district" and has its own local government, called a council, to manage its affairs.
