Hokka Hokka Tei facts for kids
Hokka Hokka Tei (ほっかほっか亭, lit. "Hot Hot Shop") is a very popular take-out food chain in Japan. It's famous for its delicious bento boxes. A bento is a single-portion meal, often served in a box, that usually includes rice, fish or meat, and pickled or cooked vegetables.
Hokka Hokka Tei has over 2,000 stores all across Japan. These stores are mostly franchise locations, which means they are owned by local people but are part of the bigger Hokka Hokka Tei company. They offer many different dishes, usually served over rice, and they are known for being quite affordable. Unlike some other fast-food places, Hokka Hokka Tei shops are only for take-out. There are no chairs or tables for eating inside.
The Story Behind Hokka Hokka Tei
Hokka Hokka Tei is the main brand name of a company called Plenus Co., Ltd. Interestingly, Plenus Co., Ltd. didn't start in the food business. Before 1980, they used to sell office equipment! But then, they decided to change and focus on the food industry, creating Hokka Hokka Tei.
Over time, some changes happened within the company. Plenus Co., Ltd. eventually created a new food brand called Hotto Motto. Because of this, another company, HURXLEY Corporation, took over running the Hokka Hokka Tei stores, especially in western Japan. So, while Plenus Co., Ltd. now focuses on Hotto Motto, HURXLEY Corporation continues to operate Hokka Hokka Tei.
