Hotto Motto
A Hotto Motto store in Fukuoka, Japan

Hotto Motto (ほっともっと) is a very popular Japanese fast food chain. It's famous for its delicious take-out bento meals. A bento is like a packed lunch, often with rice, meat or fish, and vegetables, all neatly arranged in one box! You can find Hotto Motto stores all over Japan, in every single one of its 47 prefectures.

This chain is owned by a company called Plenus. They are based in the Kyushu-Yamaguchi region of Japan. Hotto Motto even sponsored a baseball stadium in 2011, which is now called "Hotto Motto Field Kobe". They serve many classic Japanese dishes. Some popular choices include chicken karaage (fried chicken), tonkatsu (fried pork cutlet), chicken katsu (fried chicken cutlet), and teriyaki salmon.

Hotto Motto's Journey to Australia

In March 2013, the company Plenus decided to expand its business. They set up a new company in Australia called "PLENUS AusT PTY. LTD". The next year, in June 2014, Plenus opened one of their other restaurant chains, "Yayoi", in Sydney, Australia. Yayoi is known for its noodle dishes.

A year later, Plenus opened another Yayoi restaurant. This one was located in a shopping center in Sydney called The Galeries. Then, on December 8, 2016, Plenus opened a Hotto Motto shop in the same Galeries shopping center. This was the first Hotto Motto in Australia!

The menu at the Sydney Hotto Motto had fewer items than the ones in Japan. However, it still offered some of their most famous dishes. Plenus hoped that opening stores in Australia would help them grow their brand there. They also wanted to explore expanding to even more countries around the world. Unfortunately, in September 2019, the only Hotto Motto shop in Australia closed its doors permanently.
