The Story of Hollensville

Early Days and the Post Office

Hollensville got its start a long time ago. In 1896, a post office opened there. A post office is where people send and receive letters and packages. It was an important place for the community back then.

The first person in charge of the post office was named J. W. Hollingshead. He was called the postmaster. The community was named after him, using his last name, Hollingshead, which became Hollensville. The post office stayed open for about 11 years, closing its doors in 1907. Even though the post office is gone, the name Hollensville still marks this small spot on the map.
