Homemade TV was a fun Canadian TV show made for children. It was shown on CBC Television from 1976 to 1977. The show was known for its funny skits and creative stories.

What was Homemade TV about?

The show was full of funny skits and comedy acts. These skits were performed by a group called the Homemade Theatre company. The main actors were Barry Flatman, Fred Mollin, Larry Mollin, and Phil Savath. Jed McKay was also part of the company. He wrote the show's stories.

Funny Skits and Parodies

A popular part of each episode was a sketch called "The Big Story." Many skits were "parodies." A parody is a funny imitation of something famous. For example, they made "Pigmalion" which was a funny version of the play Pygmalion. They also had "Ricky" which was a parody of the movie Rocky.

Another funny sketch was "Rock 'n Romans." This skit was set in ancient times. It featured characters like Emperor Rollus and his slave, Roculuse. The show also had a bilingual sketch called "Ouest Side Story." This skit talked about Quebec separatism. This was a political idea about Quebec becoming its own country. The sketch was in both English and French.

Kids Join the Fun

In its last season, starting in October 1977, the show changed. It became more like a magazine. Kids could send in their own story ideas. Some children even got to join the cast on the set! These kids were chosen from the Young People's Theatre acting school. The actors from the Homemade Theatre company also taught at this school.

Each episode of Homemade TV started with a funny voiceover. It would say, "It's 4:30. Do you know where your parents are?"
