Hong Kong Island (constituency) facts for kids
Hong Kong Island is a special area in Hong Kong where people vote for their representatives in the Legislative Council. Think of it like a voting district!
What is the Hong Kong Island Election Area?
This election area covers all four main parts of Hong Kong Island. These parts are called districts. They include:
- Central and Western
- Eastern
- Southern
- Wan Chai
People living in these districts vote for the same group of representatives in the Legislative Council.
How This Election Area Was Formed
The Hong Kong Island election area was created for the 1998 legislative election. Before that, the island had different smaller voting areas. For example, in the 1995 election, there were separate areas like Island East, Island West, Island Central, and Island South. This new, larger area made the voting system simpler for the island.
