Hooda Shawa Qaddumi: Her Journey and Work
Hooda Shawa Qaddumi grew up in the United Kingdom. Today, she lives in Kuwait with her husband and their two children. She works as an English professor at Kuwait University.
Her Education
Ms. Qaddumi studied at the American University in Cairo. There, she earned a bachelor's degree in Economics and Political Science. Later, she received a master's degree in Education in Teaching English from The College of New Jersey in the US. She is also working on a second master's degree in Comparative Literature and Cultural Studies at Kuwait University.
Award-Winning Books
In 2008, her book The Journey of Birds to Mount Qaf won the Sheikh Zayed Book Award for Children's Literature. This same book also won the Best Direction Book Award at the Beirut International Book Fair 50. The story was inspired by the poetic writing of Logic of the Bird. This older story was written by the Persian Sufi poet Farid al-Din al-Attar. He lived in Nishapur during the twelfth century AD.
