The Hoover Hotel is a historic building located in Whittier, California. It was originally a grand hotel. Today, it serves as a home for senior citizens.

History of the Hoover Hotel

The Hoover Hotel was built in 1930. It was designed in two popular styles: Mediterranean Revival and Spanish Colonial Revival. These styles often feature red tile roofs, stucco walls, and arched windows.

In 2002, the hotel was added to the National Register of Historic Places. This means it is recognized as an important historical site in the United States.

When it first opened, the Hoover Hotel was a very fancy place. It had 100 guest rooms and beautiful ballrooms. It was the best place for visitors to stay in Whittier. Local people also used the hotel for parties and special events.

After World War II, the area around the Hoover Hotel changed. The hotel became a place with smaller rooms for people who needed affordable housing. The grand ballroom was changed into a different kind of gathering space.

Seasons at the Hoover: A New Chapter

In 2001, the Hoover Hotel got a new life. Two housing groups, LINC Housing and Vista Communities, worked together to update the building. They turned it into "Seasons at the Hoover."

This project created 50 homes for senior citizens who have lower incomes. The goal was to provide safe and affordable places for them to live. The whole renovation cost about $7.7 million.

The "Seasons at the Hoover" project has received many awards. The Whittier Historic Resources Commission and the Whittier Conservancy praised the work. The Building Industry Association called it the best seniors housing project of 2001.

In February 2002, the National Association of Home Builders gave it the Gold Medal Best of Seniors Housing award. They also gave it the Jurors’ Award for Innovation, recognizing its creative approach.
