Hopelchén is a city in the Mexican state of Campeche. Its name comes from the Yucatec Maya language. It means "place of five wells." The city is located inland, in the northern part of the state.
Hopelchén is also known as the "municipal seat" for the surrounding area. This means it's the main town where the local government for the Hopelchén Municipality is located. In 2010, about 7,295 people lived in Hopelchén.
