A Look at Hopewell's History
Hopewell was first settled before the year 1900. No one knows exactly who started the community. Even at its busiest time in 1930, Hopewell was mostly just a church and a few houses.
During World War II, many people moved away from Hopewell. However, a few residents stayed in the area until the 1990s. By then, it was a very spread-out community with homes far apart. The last time its population was counted was in 2000, when 22 people lived there.
Where is Hopewell Located?
Hopewell is found along U.S. Route 287. It is about 8 miles (13 km) northwest of a town called Pennington. This area is in the east-central part of Houston County.

Hopewell used to have its own school in the mid-1960s. Today, any students living in the Hopewell area attend schools in the Crockett Independent School District.
