The Hopewell Rocks at low tide, showing how tall they are!

Hopewell Cape is a small village and a piece of land that sticks out into the water (called a headland) in New Brunswick, Canada. It's located right where the Petitcodiac River meets Shepody Bay, which is part of the famous Bay of Fundy. This area is known for having some of the highest tides in the world!

For a long time, Hopewell Cape was an important center for Albert County. Even though it's a small community, it's one of the biggest in its local area, called Hopewell Parish. Today, about 647 people live in Hopewell Parish.

What Makes Hopewell Cape Special?

Hopewell Cape is famous for a few amazing things:

The Hopewell Rocks

The most well-known attraction here is the Hopewell Rocks. These are incredible rock formations that look like giant flowerpots or sculptures, carved by the powerful tides of the Bay of Fundy. You can walk on the ocean floor around these rocks when the tide is low. But be careful! When the tide comes in, the rocks are surrounded by water that can be as deep as a four-story building!

In 2016, one of the most famous rocks, called Elephant Rock, broke almost in half. This shows how strong nature can be, even with these huge rock formations.

Albert County Museum

Hopewell Cape is also home to the Albert County Museum. This museum is a great place to learn about the history of the area. It even has an old jail and a courthouse that you can explore! The museum also plans to have special exhibits about the life of Richard B. Bennett, who was born nearby and later became the Prime Minister of Canada.

From Lumber to Tourism

Long ago, the main way people made a living in Hopewell Cape was by cutting down trees and selling wood (lumbering). But over time, things changed. Now, most of the jobs in Hopewell Cape are related to tourism. People come from all over the world to see the Hopewell Rocks and enjoy the beautiful Bay of Fundy.

Where is Hopewell Cape?

Hopewell Cape is located on the northern side of Shepody Bay. It's surrounded by other small communities. To the southwest, you'll find Lower Cape, and to the west is Demoiselle Creek. Across the Petitcodiac River, you can find places like Beaumont and Dorchester Cape.
