The Story of Horatio
How Horatio Began
Horatio started around the year 1887. It grew into a busy place because of mining. At that time, a railroad line was built to reach the mines in the area. This made it easier to transport coal and other materials.
Life in a Mining Community
When the railroad arrived, more people moved to Horatio to work in the mines. This helped the community grow. To serve the people living there, a post office was opened in Horatio in 1888. This post office helped people send and receive letters and packages. It stayed open for many years, until 1920. After that, the community changed, and the post office was no longer needed.
