Horseshoe Bay is a very famous beach in Bermuda. It's a popular spot for visitors and locals. You can find it on the south coast of Bermuda's main island, facing the Atlantic Ocean. This beautiful beach is located in Southampton.

What Makes Horseshoe Bay Special?

Horseshoe Bay is known for its incredibly fine, white sand. It feels amazing between your toes!

Beach Facilities

To keep everyone safe, the beach has a lifeguard station. Lifeguards are on duty during the summer from 10 AM to 6 PM. There's also a café where you can buy lunch and snacks during the warmer months. The same building offers restrooms, showers, and a special area to wash sand off your feet before you leave.

Getting Around

Getting to and from the beach is easy! A shuttle bus runs from 11 AM to 6 PM. It takes people between the beach and the nearest bus stop. The ride down the hill costs $1, and the ride up costs $2. There's also a special government bus for tourists that leaves every 15 minutes from the top of the hill, usually from 12 PM to 6 PM. If you miss the special bus, regular buses run until about 10 PM.

Fun Events and Activities

Horseshoe Bay is a lively place, especially during the summer and for special events!

Beach Volleyball

During the summer, a beach volleyball competition happens once a week. It's a fun activity for both visitors and people who live in Bermuda.

Holiday Celebrations

The beach is a favorite spot for big celebrations. Many people who live in Bermuda but are from other countries gather here for a New Year's party if they stay on the island.

Good Friday KiteFest

Every year on Good Friday, families come together for the Bermuda Good Friday KiteFest. It's a wonderful event where colorful kites fill the sky over Horseshoe Bay.

Beachfest Emancipation Celebration

The biggest annual event in Bermuda, called The Bermuda Beachfest Emancipation Celebration, also takes place at Horseshoe Bay. This exciting two-day event usually happens in late July or early August. It's packed with live entertainment, beach sports, cultural traditions, and many other activities. It brings together the largest mix of locals and visitors on the island.

A Glimpse into History

Part of the area near Horseshoe Bay was once used by the military.

Warwick Camp Training Area

The land around Horseshoe Bay, known as Warwick Camp, is still used for training by the Bermuda Regiment, especially in the winter. In the past, this area had fortifications and a coastal artillery battery.

Past Use of the Rifle Range

The western part of the beach was once near a rifle range. Over the years, bullets from older types of rifles, like the Enfield and Lee-Enfield, were found there. However, this rifle range is no longer used for live firing because modern rifles, like those using the 5.56mm NATO cartridge, have a much shorter range. This means the beach is now safe from any stray bullets from training.
