Hosny Abd Rabo (Arabic: حسني عبد ربه عبد المطلب إبراهيم) is an Egyptian football manager and a former professional footballer. He was born on November 1, 1984. Hosny mostly played as a central or attacking midfielder.
He was known for being a deep-lying playmaker. This means he played in midfield and helped start attacks. He played for both his club and the national team in this role.
Hosny spent most of his football career at his home club, Ismaily. He played with their first team for over 15 seasons. He is also famous for choosing to stay with Ismaily instead of joining their big rivals, Al Ahly.
He also played for the Egyptian national team. He played for both the youth and senior teams. Hosny was part of the team that won the Africa Cup of Nations in 2008 and 2010. He was even named the best player of the tournament in 2008. Hosny also played in the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup.
Hosny officially stopped playing football on January 16, 2019, when he was 34 years old.

Hosny's Club Journey
Starting at Ismaily
Hosny began his professional football journey at Ismaily in Egypt. He was the youngest player in the Egyptian first division when Ismaily won the league in the 2001–02 season. In 2003, Hosny joined the Egyptian Under-20 team. They played in the FIFA World Youth Championship 2003 in the United Arab Emirates.
Later in 2003, he played in the Arabian Club Championship final. His team lost, and they also lost the 2003 African Champions League final. In 2004, Hosny was chosen to play for the Egyptian national team for the first time. He played in the 2004 African Cup of Nations in Tunisia. He was one of the youngest players there. He returned to play for Ismaily again in January 2011.
Playing in France with Strasbourg
In the summer of 2005, Hosny signed a five-year contract with a French club called RC Strasbourg. He played in 22 matches in Ligue 1, which is France's top football league. He was supposed to play for the Egyptian national team in the 2006 African Cup of Nations in Egypt. However, he got injured just a week before the tournament started and could not play. The Egyptian team went on to win the tournament without him.
Returning to Ismaily
In the 2005–06 season, Strasbourg moved down to a lower league, Ligue 2. Hosny then left the team on a loan deal for one season. He went back to play for his original club, Ismaily.
He played very well for the Egyptian national team in the 2008 African Cup of Nations. Because of his great performance, he was chosen as the Player of the Tournament.
After his loan ended, Hosny wanted to stay at Ismaily permanently. This was because Strasbourg did not get promoted back to Ligue 1. However, Strasbourg did not agree to this. They decided to take legal action against him for signing with another club without their permission.
Playing for Al-Ahli in Dubai
On July 29, 2008, it was announced that Hosny signed a two-season loan deal. He joined the Emirati club Al-Ahli in Dubai. Many top European clubs from England and Spain were interested in him. But Ismaily said that Al-Ahli's offer was the only official one they received, besides an offer from the Spanish club Osasuna.
After Hosny's move was announced, officials from the Egyptian Premier League club Al Ahly said they would take legal action against him. They claimed he had signed a contract with them earlier.
Playing for Al Nassr
On July 2, 2012, Hosny signed a one-year loan deal. He joined the Saudi club Al Nassr FC.
Playing for His Country
Hosny played his first game for the Egyptian national team against Sudan on June 6, 2004. He was called up for the 2006 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt. But he got injured a week before it started and could not play.
He was part of the national team that won the 2007 Pan Arab Games in Egypt. Hosny was a very important player for the Egyptian team that won the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations. He scored four goals and made two assists. He was also named the Player of the Tournament.
Africa Cup of Nations 2008 Highlights
In the first match against Cameroon, Hosny scored two goals. One of them was from a penalty kick. He also helped set up the third goal, which was scored by Abo Trieka.
