Hosny Abd Rabo (born on 1 November 1984) is a famous Egyptian football manager and a former player. He was known for playing in the middle of the field as a central or attacking midfielder.

Hosny was often the main player who controlled the game from the middle. He did this for both his club teams and the national team.

He spent most of his career playing for his childhood club, Ismaily. He played with their main team for over 15 seasons. He is also famous for choosing to stay with Ismaily instead of joining their big rivals, Al Ahly.

Hosny also played for the Egyptian national team at different age levels. He was part of the team that won the Africa Cup of Nations in 2008 and 2010. He was even named the best player of the tournament in 2008! Hosny also played for Egypt in the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup.

He officially stopped playing football on 16 January 2019, when he was 34 years old.

Club Career Highlights

Hosny Abd Rabo played for several clubs during his career. He started and ended his playing days at his beloved home club, Ismaily.

Playing for Ismaily

Hosny began his professional football journey at Ismaily in Egypt. He was the youngest player in the Egyptian top league when Ismaily won the championship in the 2001–02 season.

In 2003, Hosny played for the Egyptian Under-20 team in the FIFA World Youth Championship 2003 in the United Arab Emirates. He also reached the finals of the Arabian Club Championship and the African Champions League in 2003.

In 2004, Hosny was chosen to play for the Egyptian national team for the first time. This was for the 2004 African Cup of Nations in Tunisia, where he was one of the youngest players. He later returned to Ismaily in January 2011.

Time in France with Strasbourg

In the summer of 2005, Hosny signed a five-year contract with a French club called RC Strasbourg. He played in 22 matches in France's top league, Ligue 1.

He was supposed to play for the Egyptian national team in the 2006 African Cup of Nations in Egypt. However, he got injured just a week before the tournament began and could not play. Even without him, the Egyptian team went on to win the tournament.

Returning to Ismaily Again

After the 2005–06 season, Strasbourg moved down to a lower league. Hosny then went back to his original club, Ismaily, on a loan deal for one season.

He played incredibly well for the Egyptian national team in the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations. Because of his amazing performance, he was chosen as the "Player of the Tournament."

After his loan ended, Hosny decided to stay with Ismaily permanently. This was because Strasbourg did not get promoted back to the top French league.

Playing in the UAE with Al-Ahli

On 29 July 2008, Hosny signed a two-year loan deal with an Emirati club called Al-Ahli in Dubai. Many top European clubs from England and Spain were interested in him.

Ismaily later shared that the only other official offer they received was from a Spanish club, Osasuna.

Loan to Al Nassr FC

On 2 July 2012, Hosny signed a one-year loan deal with the Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr FC.

International Career with Egypt

Hosny played his first game for the Egyptian national team against Sudan on 6 June 2004. He was called up for the 2006 Africa Cup of Nations but missed it due to an injury.

He was a key player when the Egyptian team won the 2007 Pan Arab Games in Egypt. He also played a huge role in Egypt winning the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations. He scored four goals and made two assists, earning him the "Player of the Tournament" award.

2008 Africa Cup of Nations Success

In the first match of the 2008 tournament, Hosny scored two goals against Cameroon. One of these goals was from a penalty kick. He also helped set up another goal for his teammate, Abo Trieka.

He continued to score important goals throughout the tournament, helping Egypt win the title.
