Hossein Abdi was born on March 21, 1967. He is a well-known Iranian football manager. He used to be a professional football player. Today, he is the manager of the Iran national under-17 team.

Playing for Clubs

Hossein Abdi played his whole career for one team, Persepolis. He played for them from 1987 to 2000. He was even the captain of the team.

During his time as a player, Persepolis won many titles. They won the regional Tehran Provincial League four times. These wins were in 1987/88, 1988/89, 1989/90, and 1990/91.

Later, they won the Azadegan League four more times. This was the top football league in Iran back then. They won in 1995/96, 1996/97, 1998/99, and 1999/2000.

Becoming a Manager

After his playing days, Abdi became a football manager. In 2009, he was the head coach for Damash Gilan. He then became an assistant coach for Persepolis from 2009 to 2010.

While he was an assistant, the team won the Iran Hazfi Cup. This was a big achievement for the team. Abdi later left the team because of money issues.

In 2015, Abdi briefly took over as the temporary manager for Persepolis. He also worked as a technical advisor. This was for the Iran women's national football team in 2018 and 2019.

Coaching the Iran U-17 Team

In 2019, Hossein Abdi became the head coach of the Iran U-17 football team. The previous coach had been let go after a tough loss.

Abdi prepared the U-16 team for a big tournament in 2020. However, that tournament was later cancelled.

He returned to coach the U-17 team again in 2022. His goal was to get them ready for the 2023 AFC U-17 Asian Cup. This important tournament was held in Bahrain.

Iran did very well in the tournament. They won their group, showing great teamwork. They then beat Yemen in the quarterfinals after a penalty shootout. This was a very exciting match. However, they lost to Japan in the semi-finals.
