Persepolis won many titles while Abdi was playing. They won the regional Tehran Provincial League four times. These wins were in 1987/88, 1988/89, 1989/90, and 1990/91. The team also won the Azadegan League four times. This was the top football league in Iran. They won it in 1995/96, 1996/97, 1998/99, and 1999/2000.

Coaching Teams to Victory

After his playing career, Hossein Abdi became a football manager. He has coached several teams and helped them succeed.

Early Coaching Roles

In 2009, Abdi was the head coach for Damash Gilan. Later that year, he became an assistant coach for Persepolis. He worked with the team from 2009 to 2010. During this time, Persepolis won the Iran Hazfi Cup.

In 2015, Abdi briefly took over as the interim manager for Persepolis. He also worked as a technical advisor. This was for the Iran women's national football team in 2018 and 2019.

Leading Youth Teams

Hossein Abdi has a special connection with youth football. In 2019, he became the head coach of the Iran U-17 football team. He prepared them for the 2020 AFC U-16 Championship. However, that tournament was later canceled.

He returned to the U-17 team in 2022. His goal was to get them ready for the 2023 AFC U-17 Asian Cup. This important tournament was held in Bahrain. Although they lost to Japan in the semi-finals, it was a great achievement.

As of 2024, Hossein Abdi is the manager of the Iran national under-20 team.
