The Hotel Lafayette, also known as the Lafayette Hotel, is a really old and important hotel building. You can find it in Buffalo, New York, in a place called Erie County, New York. It's a famous landmark in the city.

A Look at the Hotel Lafayette

This amazing building has seven floors! It's made of strong steel and concrete. Its design is called the French Renaissance style, which means it looks like grand buildings from old France. Different parts of the hotel were built between 1902 and 1926. It has pretty red bricks and white terra cotta decorations.

The first part of the hotel was designed by a company called Bethune, Bethune & Fuchs. A famous architect named Louise Blanchard Bethune was part of this team. She helped build the hotel between 1902 and 1911. Later, more parts were added between 1916 and 1926 by another company, Esenwein and Johnson.

In 1942, the hotel's main lobby was decorated in the Art Moderne style. This style uses smooth shapes and modern designs. When it was brand new, the Lafayette Hotel was thought to be one of the top 15 hotels in the entire country! It was very fancy. Every room had hot and cold water, plus a telephone. There's even a tall antenna, about 97 meters (318 feet) high, attached to the building.

The Hotel Lafayette was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2010. This means it's a special building that is important to history and should be protected.

The Big Renovation of 2012

In 2012, the hotel got a huge makeover! A project costing $35 million helped bring the hotel back to its original beauty. Now, the hotel has 92 apartments with one or two bedrooms. It also has 57 hotel rooms for guests. You can find several bars, restaurants, and big rooms for parties and events inside.

A property developer from Buffalo named Rocco Termini led this big renovation. He worked with architect Jonathan Morris and his team to make the hotel shine again.
