This museum first opened its doors in 1927. It's located inside a beautiful old house from the late 1800s, which was originally called Brooker Hall.

Discover the Museum's Collections

Hove Museum of Creativity is packed with interesting things to see. It has a special gallery just for toys, plus amazing art, and even a look back at early movies!

The Wizard's Attic Toy Gallery

One of the most popular spots is the "Wizard's Attic." This gallery is full of awesome toys! You can see all sorts of things, like old dolls, cuddly teddy bears, cool mechanical toys, tiny toy trains, detailed dollhouses, fun rocking horses, and even old-fashioned tricycles.

The museum's toy collection started way back in the 1950s. A person named Leslie Daiken helped create the National Toy Museum and Institute of Play, which led to many of these toys coming to Hove.

Art, Crafts, and Local History

Beyond the toys, the museum also shows off some really neat contemporary crafts and beautiful fine art. These are often made by artists living today.

You can also learn about the history of Hove and the surrounding area. There are displays that tell stories about what life was like in the past.

Early Cinema Wonders

If you're interested in movies, you'll love the collection of early cinema artifacts. These are from the 1890s and early 1900s, showing how movies first began!

The Story of Brooker Hall

The building where the museum is located, Brooker Hall, has its own interesting history.

Building Design and Style

Brooker Hall was built in 1877 by an architect named Thomas Lainson. It was designed for a person called Major John Vallance. The building is in a style called Italianate. This style became very popular thanks to Osborne House, which was Queen Victoria's home on the Isle of Wight.

A Historic Home

The hall stands in lovely grounds that are now a public park. During the First World War, the building was used to house people who were working at the local gas works or on nearby farms.
