He helped with vocal performances and arrangements for albums by Chaka Khan, Quincy Jones, Michael Jackson, and Earth, Wind & Fire. He also worked with gospel singers like Edwin Hawkins, Kristle Murden, and Danniebelle Hall.

In 2009, Howard McCrary also worked on the first gospel album by the Chung Brothers (Henry & Roger Chung) in Hong Kong. He was a singer, pianist, and arranger for their song "Soul Seranade, Part II" on the album The Chimes.
