Hoyo de Manzanares is a small town in Spain. It is located in the Community of Madrid, which is like a state or region. You can find it in the northwestern part of Madrid, just south of the Sierra de Guadarrama mountains.
This town has about 8,222 people living there permanently (as of 2018). This number has been growing steadily. During the summer, even more people come to Hoyo de Manzanares. Many families own summer homes here, making the town much busier and more lively.
Hoyo de Manzanares is special because it is inside the Cuenca Alta del Manzanares Regional Park. This park was created in 1985 and is the oldest and most protected park in the Community of Madrid. This means the town is surrounded by beautiful mountains and green fields.
The only way to get to Hoyo de Manzanares from the city of Madrid is by using the M-618 highway. This road goes right through the regional park. It passes by other towns like Torrelodones and Colmenar Viejo before reaching Hoyo de Manzanares.

A Look at Hoyo de Manzanares History
People have lived in this area for a very long time. We know this from old evidence found around the town. However, we only have written records about life in Hoyo de Manzanares starting in the Middle Ages.
After a period known as the Reconquista, which was when Christian kingdoms took back land in Spain, Hoyo de Manzanares started to grow again. People from different groups moved here. These included Moriscos (Muslims who had converted to Christianity), Philistines, Segovians, and people from Madrid. This mix of people lived together for many years.
However, between 1609 and 1614, the Spanish government made a big change. They forced the Moriscos to leave Spain. This happened after the marriage of Isabella of Castile and Ferdinand of Aragon, which united the country. Because of this, Hoyo de Manzanares lost many of its residents. Despite this, the town's population stayed steady for a long time after.

Hoyo de Manzanares offers many types of schools for kids and young adults.

- The town also has one public elementary school.

Military Academy in Town
Hoyo de Manzanares is home to an important military school. This is the Academy of Engineers of Madrid, which was started way back in 1803. The academy has one of the biggest libraries in northern Madrid. It contains many special books, including a large collection about the Spanish Civil War.
