Hristo Shopov started his acting journey in 1981. His first movie was called Dishay, choveche (Breathe, Man!). He has acted in many Bulgarian films. He also appeared in some international movies.

Playing Pontius Pilate

Hristo Shopov became very famous for his role as Pontius Pilate. He played this character in the 2004 movie The Passion of the Christ. This film was directed by Mel Gibson. Later, in 2006, he played Pilate again in a movie called The Inquiry. Playing the same important role twice is quite special for an actor.

How He Got the Role

An assistant director named Mary Soan suggested Hristo for the role of Pilate. She thought he would be perfect for the part. After a short talk with Mel Gibson, Hristo was chosen for the movie.
