Hristo Shopov facts for kids

Hristo Naumov Shopov (pronounced HREES-toh NAH-oo-mov SHOH-pov) was born on January 4, 1964. He is a famous actor from Bulgaria. His father, Naum Shopov, was also a well-known Bulgarian actor. Hristo followed in his father's footsteps.

Hristo Shopov is most famous for playing Pontius Pilate in the 2004 movie The Passion of the Christ. Pontius Pilate was an important leader in ancient times. Hristo played this role again in the 2006 film The Inquiry. Playing Pilate twice makes him one of only two actors to do so.

He started acting in 1981 in a movie called Dishay, choveche (Breathe, Man!). Hristo has been in many Bulgarian films. These include Vchera (Yesterday) and Sledvay me (Follow Me). He also appeared in some American movies. In Bulgaria, he is best known for Vchera. This movie tells the story of young Bulgarians. They studied at a special English language school during a time called Communist rule.

Getting the Role of Pontius Pilate

A person named Mary Soan helped cast the movie I Am David. She thought Hristo would be perfect for the role of Pilate. She told Shaila Rubin, who was in charge of casting. After a short talk with the director, Hristo got the part.

Hristo Shopov also played Pontius Pilate in the 2006 film The Inquiry. In this movie, Max von Sydow played Emperor Tiberius.
