Hsu Pang-hsing (Chinese: 徐傍興; pinyin: Xú Bàngxīng, January 29, 1909 - August 3, 1984) was a famous doctor from Pingtung, Taiwan. He was a Hakka person. Dr. Hsu is remembered for his important work in medicine and for starting schools and even a world-champion baseball team!
Life Story of Dr. Hsu
Hsu Pang-hsing was born in 1909 in a town called Zhongxinlun, Neipu. This town is in Pingtung, Taiwan. He went to school at Neiho Elementary School. Later, he studied at Takao Middle School. He then went to Taihok Medical College to become a doctor.
In 1931, Hsu Pang-hsing married Chiu Jen-mei. They had six children together.
After World War II
After World War II ended in 1945, Dr. Hsu became the first director of surgery at National Taiwan University Hospital. This was a very important job! However, he decided to leave this position in 1950.
After leaving the university hospital, Dr. Hsu opened his own hospital. It was called Hsu Surgery Hospital. He opened it in 1950. He also believed strongly in education. In 1961, he started a school called Private Meiho Senior High School.
Meiho Youth Baseball Team
Dr. Hsu loved sports too. In 1971, he created the Meiho Youth baseball team. This team became incredibly successful! They won the world championship six times. Dr. Hsu Pang-hsing passed away in 1984. He was 76 years old.
