Huang Zhun (born June 25, 1926 – died December 2, 2024) was a talented Chinese composer. She went to the Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts and finished her studies in 1944. There, she learned about drama and how to compose music. A very famous composer named Xian Xinghai was her teacher. For a short time, she also sang as a mezzo-soprano. After school, she worked with different art groups and film studios. In 1949, she joined the Shanghai Film Studio. She worked there as a composer and music director until 1987. Huang Zhun wrote music for many movies, including Long Live Youth and Red Detachment of Women. She passed away on December 2, 2024, at the age of 98.
Becoming a Music Maker
Huang Zhun was born in Huangyan, a city in China's Zhejiang province. She wrote her first song for a movie in 1947. This movie was called "Leaving him to fight Lao Jiang." It was one of the first feature films made in certain parts of China. In 1948, she also wrote a very popular song. It was called "The Army Loves the People, The People Love the Army." This song became famous in northeast China.
Later, Huang Zhun moved to work at the Beijing Film Studio. After that, she joined the Shanghai Film Studio. There, she wrote the music for many movies. Some of these films included Family and Woman Basketball Player No. 5. One of her most important works was the music for the film Red Detachment of Women. This movie's music was very influential at the time.
Award-Winning Songs
Huang Zhun also wrote many songs for children. Her song "The Fishing Kittens" won the National Children's Song Award. Throughout her life, she composed more than 200 songs! Another one of her songs, "The Teacher," won first prize. This was at the 2nd National Children's Song Award. Her song "Years Gone By" also won third prize. It was chosen as a favorite song by young people across the country.
