Hugh Lupton is a famous British storyteller. He is known for keeping the old tradition of telling stories out loud alive. He shares many different kinds of tales, from ancient myths to classic folktales.

Hugh Lupton's Storytelling Journey

Hugh Lupton was born in 1952. He was the oldest child of Francis G. H. Lupton and Mary Gee/Lupton. When he was a boy, he often visited his great-uncle, Arthur Ransome. Arthur Ransome was a famous writer, known for his children's books like Swallows and Amazons. Hugh remembers hearing his great-uncle's stories, which were often set in places like Norfolk and the Lake District.

Hugh said that stories were very important to him as he grew up. He was born in Cambridgeshire, England. He went to school at King's College School, Cambridge. Later, he studied to become a teacher in Norwich.

In 1985, Hugh Lupton helped start a group called the Company of Storytellers. He worked with Ben Haggarty [de] and Sally Pomme Clayton. For some time, he also helped run a storytelling club called The Crick Crack Club in Norfolk.

Hugh tells many different kinds of stories. He shares long, epic tales like the Iliad and the Odyssey, which are ancient Greek stories about heroes and wars. He also tells shorter stories, such as those in his collection I become part of it (tales from the pre-world). He also tells traditional folktales like The Three Snake Leaves (tales from the Grimm Forest).
