China Huiyuan Juice Group Limited (Chinese: 中国汇源果汁集团有限公司; pinyin: Zhōngguó Huìyuán Guǒzhī Jítuán Yǒuxiàn GōngSī) is a major company from China that makes juice and other drinks. It started in 1992 and its main office is in Beijing. It is known as the largest juice maker in China that is owned by private individuals, not the government.

Huiyuan makes many different drinks. These include fruit and vegetable juices, nectars (which are thicker fruit drinks), bottled water, tea, and even dairy drinks.

Becoming a Public Company

In February 2007, Huiyuan Juice became a public company. This means its shares could be bought and sold on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. Before this happened, some big companies, like Groupe Danone and Warburg Pincus, invested in Huiyuan. They were important early investors.

Later, these investors sold their shares. Warburg Pincus sold its shares in 2009. Danone sold its part of Huiyuan in 2010 to a group called SAIF, which is a private investment company from Hong Kong.

Coca-Cola's Offer to Buy Huiyuan

In September 2008, The Coca-Cola Company wanted to buy China Huiyuan Juice. Coca-Cola offered a lot of money, about HK$17.9 billion (which is about US$2.3 billion). This was much more than Huiyuan's shares were worth at the time.

This big offer needed to be approved by the Chinese government. Specifically, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce had to check if the deal would create a monopoly. A monopoly happens when one company controls almost all of a market, which can be bad for competition.

The Chinese government looked at the deal for several months. On March 18, 2009, the Ministry of Commerce decided not to allow Coca-Cola to buy Huiyuan. They said it was because of concerns about market competition. They wanted to make sure that no single company would have too much control over the juice market in China.
