Humberlito Borges Teixeira, often called simply Borges, is a former professional footballer from Brazil. He was born on October 5, 1980. Borges played as a striker, which means his main job was to score goals for his team. He was known for his skill in finding the back of the net throughout his career.

Club Career Highlights

Borges played for many football clubs during his career. He started with smaller teams and then moved on to bigger ones, showing his talent along the way.

Playing for Vegalta Sendai

In 2006, Borges moved to Japan to play for the team Vegalta Sendai. He had a very successful season there. Borges became the top scorer in the J2 League for that year. This meant he scored more goals than any other player in the league!

Time at São Paulo FC

After his great performance in Japan, Borges returned to Brazil. He joined São Paulo in 2007, a very famous club.

  • In 2007, São Paulo won the Brazilian championship. Borges was one of their top scorers with 7 goals.
  • The team won the championship again in 2008, making it their third win in a row. Borges scored 10 goals that season.
  • On November 8, 2008, Borges scored three goals in one game, which is called a hat-trick. This happened in a match against Portuguesa. He finished that season with 16 goals in the league.
  • In 2009, Borges was São Paulo's top scorer in the Copa Libertadores, a big international club tournament.

Joining Grêmio FBPA

Borges moved to Grêmio in January 2010. He quickly made an impact.

  • He debuted for Grêmio in the first game of the 2010 Campeonato Gaúcho season. He scored a goal in that match, helping his team win 3–2.
  • In the 2010 Brazil Cup, Borges scored two goals against Araguaia Atlético Clube. These goals were very important for Grêmio to move forward in the competition.
  • He also scored his first goal in a "Grenal" match on April 25, 2010. This is a big rivalry game between Grêmio and Internacional. His goal helped Grêmio win 2–0.

Success with Santos FC

On May 23, 2011, Borges transferred to Santos, another major Brazilian club.

  • In his very first game for Santos, Borges scored two goals! Santos won that match 3–1 against Avai.
  • He also scored a late goal against Cruzeiro, leading Santos to a 1–0 victory.
  • Borges became the top scorer in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A in 2011. He scored 23 goals in just 29 games. This was a huge achievement, matching a record that had stood for 28 years!

Moving to Cruzeiro

Borges later joined Cruzeiro. In his first game for Cruzeiro, he scored a goal against his former club, Santos. He helped Cruzeiro win the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A in both 2013 and 2014.

International Career

Because of his amazing performance and goal-scoring for Santos in 2011, Borges was called up to play for the Brazilian national team. On September 22, 2011, he played in a game against Argentina. This match was part of the Superclásico de las Américas, a famous football rivalry between Brazil and Argentina.
