Humboldt, Ohio facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Humboldt is a small place in Ross County, Ohio, which is a county in the state of Ohio in the United States. It's called an unincorporated community, which means it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town does. Instead, it's usually managed by the county.

Humboldt's History

Humboldt began to grow in 1878. This was when a railroad line was built and reached this area. The railroad helped connect places and transport goods and people.

Two years later, in 1880, a post office was opened in Humboldt. This post office served the community for many years, helping people send and receive letters and packages. It stayed open until 1935.

Humboldt was also known as a "whistle stop" on the Ohio Southern Railroad. A whistle stop was a place where trains would only stop if someone wanted to get on or off, or if there was something to pick up or drop off. The train engineer would often blow the whistle to signal its arrival or departure.
