Hunter–Dulin Building: A Historic Skyscraper
This impressive building stands 25 stories tall, reaching about 94 meters (308 feet) into the sky. It was finished in 1927, making it a true landmark from nearly a century ago!
Building History and Design
The Hunter–Dulin Building was officially added to the National Register of Historic Places on April 17, 1997. This means it's recognized as an important historical site. Between 1999 and 2001, the building got a full makeover. It was carefully restored and updated to keep its classic look while adding modern features.
Famous Connections and Stories
Did you know this building has some famous connections? From 1927 to 1942, it was the main office for the National Broadcasting Company on the West Coast. Imagine, the 21st floor held the executive offices, and the 22nd floor was where their studios were!
The building also has a fun link to a famous book. In Dashiell Hammett's 1930 detective novel, "The Maltese Falcon," the fictional detective agency "Spade & Archer" was located at 111 Sutter Street. The main character, Sam Spade, even had his office on the 5th floor!
