The Hunter's Hill Stone, also known as the Glamis 1 Stone, is an ancient stone monument from Scotland. It was carved by the Picts, a group of people who lived in eastern and northern Scotland during the early Middle Ages. This special stone stands tall at Hunter's Hill, near the village of Glamis in Angus, Scotland. It's a Class II Pictish stone, meaning it has both a Christian cross and older Pictish symbols carved on it.

Where is the Hunter's Hill Stone?

You can find the Hunter's Hill Stone in a wooded area. It sits on the northern side of Hunter's Hill. This spot is just south of the main A94 road and southeast of Glamis village.

What Does the Stone Look Like?

This stone is a type called a "cross-slab." This means it has a cross carved on one side. The Hunter's Hill Stone is about 1.52 meters (5 feet) tall. It is also about 0.71 meters (2 feet 4 inches) wide.

The cross side of the stone has carvings that stick out. This is called "relief carving." The other side of the stone has symbols that are cut into it. These are called "incised" symbols. Because it has both types of carvings, it's known as a Class II Pictish stone.
