A Hub for Trains

Hunters Run became important because of trains. In 1884, a train station was built here. It was for the Gettysburg and Harrisburg Railroad. This station was at a special spot. It was where this new railroad met an older one. The older one was the South Mountain Railroad, built in 1870.

This meeting point, or "junction," was very busy. Later, in 1891, another railroad started here. It was called the Hunter's Run and Slate Belt Railroad. Hunters Run was its starting point. These railroads helped people and goods travel. They connected different parts of Pennsylvania.
