Husaini Abdullahi (born March 3, 1939 – died July 9, 2019) was an important Nigerian Navy officer. He also served as the military governor of Bendel State in Nigeria from March 1976 to July 1978. This was during a time when the military ruled the country under General Olusegun Obasanjo.
Husaini Abdullahi was born on March 3, 1939, in a place called Doma. This area is now part of Nasarawa State in Nigeria.
He joined the Nigerian Navy and rose through the ranks. During the Nigerian Civil War, which was a conflict in Nigeria, he played an important role. In July 1967, as a lieutenant commander, he helped lead troops from a ship called NNS Lokoja. They were involved in taking control of Bonny Island.
Becoming a Governor
On July 30, 1975, a new leader of Nigeria, Brigadier Murtala Muhammed, made an announcement. He said that Captain Abdullahi would join the Supreme Military Council. This was a very important group that helped govern the country.
Later, General Olusegun Obasanjo became the Head of State. He chose Commodore Abdullahi to be the military governor of Bendel State. He served in this role from March 1976 until July 1978. As governor, he was in charge of leading the state.
After a long and successful career, Husaini Abdullahi retired from the navy. He had reached the high rank of vice-admiral. Even after leaving the military, he continued to contribute to society.
