Héctor Oscar Rivoira (born April 10, 1960 – died August 14, 2019) was an Argentine football player and manager. He was known for his long career in Argentine football, both on the field and as a coach. He passed away at the age of 59 after a long illness.

Playing Career

Héctor Rivoira started his football journey in the youth teams of River Plate, a very famous club in Argentina. However, he didn't play for their main senior team.

In 1981, he joined Almirante Brown. He played many games for them, appearing in 155 matches. After that, he moved to Deportivo Italia. He even played a short time in the top football league in Argentina during the 1986-87 season.

Later in his career, Rivoira played for other clubs like Club Atlético Lanús and Defensores de Belgrano. He finished his playing days with a local team called Club Atlético Ituzaingó.

Managerial Career

After his playing career, Héctor Rivoira became a football manager. His first coaching job was with Club Atlético Ituzaingó in 1992. He then managed several teams in Argentina's second division, known as the Primera B Nacional.

One of his big achievements was in 1999. He led Chacarita Juniors to a second-place finish in the second division, which meant they were promoted to the top league, the Primera División. He coached them for one full season in the top league before leaving.

After coaching Quilmes, Rivoira even went to Ecuador to manage a team called LDU Quito.

In 2003, he came back to Argentina. He took over as manager of Instituto. He helped them win the Primera B Nacional championship, which earned them promotion to the top league for the second time in his career. However, he left the team early into the new season.

He continued to manage other second-division teams like Ferro Carril Oeste and Chacarita Juniors. He returned to Instituto in 2007 for another period.

In 2008, Rivoira became the manager of Atlético Tucumán. He led them to win the 2008-09 Primera B Nacional championship. This was his second championship and third promotion from the second division. After a difficult start in the top league, he decided to step down. In December 2009, he became the manager of Club Atlético Huracán, a well-known team in the Primera División.

Héctor Rivoira passed away on August 14, 2019, at 59 years old. He had been battling colon cancer for about a year.
