Playing for Clubs
Ian Carter started his professional soccer journey in 1987 with a team called Toronto Italia. As a defender, he played for several other teams during his career. These included the Winnipeg Fury, Toronto Blizzard, and Montreal Impact. He also played for teams in England, like Peterborough United and Dover Athletic. Later, he played for the Toronto Lynx and Harrisburg City Islanders.
The 1998 Season with Toronto Olympians
In 1998, Ian Carter joined a brand new team called the Toronto Olympians. This team was part of a new league, the Canadian Professional Soccer League. During the 1998 season, Carter and the Olympians had an amazing year. They were the first team in the league to go undefeated, meaning they didn't lose a single game! They also won the regular season championship and the Open Canada Cup. The team made it to the playoff finals, but they lost in a penalty shootout to the St. Catharines Wolves.
Playing for Canada
Ian Carter also played for his home country, Canada. He was part of the Canadian youth team that played in the 1987 FIFA World Youth Championship in Chile. He also joined the Canadian team for the 1987 Pan American Games.
Later, he played for the main Canadian senior team. He played in 8 international games for Canada.
