Ian Gibbons (born 18 July 1952 – died 1 August 2019) was an English musician. He was best known for playing the keyboards for the famous band The Kinks.

Early Musical Journey

Ian Gibbons started playing music at a young age. When he was nine, he learned to play the accordion. He played in his school band and also performed by himself. He even won awards at music festivals and played at charity events.

At 14, Ian started his own rock band at school. In this band, he played the guitar and sang. After finishing school, he switched to playing the organ. He performed with local bands until 1972. Then, he joined a band called Moonstone, which released three songs.

Joining The Kinks

Ian Gibbons worked with several other bands before joining The Kinks. These included Love Affair and The Nashville Teens. In 1979, he tried out for The Kinks and was asked to join them. He played with The Kinks for ten years, until 1989.

During this time, he also recorded music with other artists. Some of these included Dr. Feelgood and Ken Hensley. Ian rejoined The Kinks in 1993 and stayed with them until they stopped playing together in 1997.

Later Career and Legacy

After his time with The Kinks, Ian Gibbons continued to make music. He worked with many well-known musicians. These included Roger Chapman, Suzi Quatro, and Ian Hunter. He also performed with Chris Farlowe and Maggie Bell.

In 2008, Ian joined a group called The Kast Off Kinks. This band included other former members of The Kinks. They continued to play the band's classic songs. Ian Gibbons passed away on 1 August 2019, at the age of 67.
