Ichocán is a town in Peru. It is located in the Cajamarca region. Ichocán is the capital of the Ichocán District in the San Marcos Province.
About Ichocán
Ichocán sits high up in the mountains. Its altitude is about 2,596 meters (8,517 feet) above sea level. This makes it a cool place to live.
The town is about 124 kilometers (77 miles) away from Cajamarca. When you get close to Ichocán, you can see two big hills. People call these hills "The Church" and "The Bell."
Ichocán was once known by a different name. In the past, it was called Ichoca.
Famous Connections
Some people believe that the famous singer and artist Yma Sumac was born in Ichocán. She was known for her amazing voice. However, other sources say she was born in Callao, another city in Peru.
