Ignacio Serrano, also known as José Ignacio Serrano, was a Mexican painter and lithographer in the 1800s. A lithographer is someone who makes pictures using a special printing method called lithography. Ignacio Serrano was very important because he was the first teacher of lithography at the famous Academy of San Carlos in Mexico City. He even became the head of the Academy!

Biography

Ignacio Serrano was also a Lieutenant Engineer, which means he had a military rank and was skilled in engineering. He learned a lot from Claudio Linati, who was one of the first people to bring lithography to Mexico in 1826.

In 1830, Ignacio Serrano started teaching lithography at the Academy of San Carlos. He used this printing technique to create pictures for many different types of books and documents. He illustrated scientific books, military reports, maps of places, civic documents, and even music sheets. He also drew pictures of famous places like the Cacahuamilpa caves and the Nevado de Toluca volcano during explorations in 1835.
