Ilan D. Hall is a famous American chef. He is also a television personality and owns restaurants. Ilan Hall won the second season of the TV show Top Chef. Today, he is the owner and head chef of Ramen Hood in Los Angeles.

Early Life and Learning to Cook
Ilan Hall grew up in Great Neck, New York. His parents moved to the U.S. from other countries. His father was from Glasgow, Scotland, and his mother was from Israel. Both of his parents came from Jewish families.
When Ilan was a teenager, he worked at a seafood store. It was called Marine Fishery and was in his hometown. Later, he studied cooking in Italy. He also trained at the well-known Culinary Institute of America (CIA).
Ilan Hall's Cooking Career
In 2007, Ilan Hall became very famous. He won the second season of the TV cooking show Top Chef. Before winning, Ilan worked as a line cook. This was at Casa Mono, a Spanish restaurant in Manhattan. During the show, he had a strong rivalry with another chef, Marcel Vigneron. They had even gone to culinary school together.
Opening Restaurants
In August 2009, Ilan Hall opened his first restaurant. It was called The Gorbals and was in downtown Los Angeles. Soon after opening, the health department temporarily closed it. This was because of a problem with the water heater. The restaurant reopened later that year. However, it closed for good in 2014.
In 2014, Ilan opened a new The Gorbals restaurant. This one was in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. In 2015, he changed the menu. It became an Israeli barbecue style. He also renamed the restaurant ESH. This word means "fire" in Hebrew. ESH closed in September 2016.
In 2015, Ilan Hall opened a new restaurant called Ramen Hood. It is located in Los Angeles at Grand Central Market. This restaurant is still open today.
Television Host
Ilan Hall also hosted a cooking competition show. It was called Knife Fight. The show was on the Esquire Network. Ilan hosted it for four seasons. The show ended in 2017. This happened when the Esquire Network cable channel closed down.
