The Story of Ilyushin
Ilyushin began its work on January 13, 1933. This was during the time of the Soviet Union, a large country that included Russia. The company was created to help build strong aircraft for the nation.
Over the years, many skilled people led the design teams. In 1970, G. V. Novozhilov became the chief designer, guiding new aircraft projects.
In 2006, the Russian government decided to bring several big aircraft companies together. Ilyushin joined with other famous names like Mikoyan and Sukhoi. They all became part of a new, larger company called the United Aircraft Corporation.
Later, in July 2014, Ilyushin and another company called Myasishchev joined forces. They became a special part of the United Aircraft Corporation that focuses on transport aircraft.
