Description: Front of Penn Alps, an old inn on the original route of the National Road just east of Grantsville in Garrett County, Maryland, United States. Built in the early 19th century and later remodelled to its current semi-Italianate appearance, it remains a restaurant to the present day. It is one of several former taverns in far western Maryland included in the "Inns on the National Road" grouping, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as a historic district.
